Joanna Jesperson was born on November 27, 1950 in Summit, New Jersey. Before beginning her legal career, Ms. Jesperson received Bachelor of Music (Magna Cum Laude) and Master of Music (Maxima Cum Laude) degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. From 1973-1985, she taught high school music and directed community musical theatre productions in Michigan and California.
In 1984, Ms. Jesperson earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law, where she graduated with honors and served on the Moot Court Board of Governors. For the next 10 years Ms. Jesperson practiced medical malpractice defense litigation with the Los Angeles office of Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols, representing physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, dental practices and other health care providers in all aspects of litigation up through and including trial and appellate practice.
In 1995, Ms. Jesperson returned to the east coast and continued to defend medical malpractice cases with the D.C. law firms of Epstein, Becker & Greene, PC and Montedonico, Belcuore & Tazzara, PC before joining Gleason, Flynn, Emig & Fogleman, Chartered in 2009.
Joanna Jesperson is an active member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars (she currently has inactive status with the California Bar). Ms. Jesperson is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, The U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
