James P. Gleason, Jr. received his juris doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1978 and B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975. He was admitted to practice in Maryland in 1978, and in the District of Columbia in 1979. He was a co-founder and principal of the firm of Gleason & Flynn in 1983, now known as Gleason, Flynn, Emig & Fogleman, Chartered. The majority of his practice has been Health Care based, including medical malpractice litigation, credentialing and privileges disputes, contract preparation and interpretation, revision and updating of hospital and medical staff by-laws, and virtually all areas of related practice.
Mr. Gleason is admitted to practice before the Maryland Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He is an experienced courtroom attorney who has tried over 100 trials in the courts of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia, including both jury and bench trials. He is the attorney of record on a significant number of reported cases reaching the appellate courts. In addition to a regular trial practice, he has successfully represented clients before various arbitration panels and administrative tribunals.
Mr. Gleason was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2002. (No more than 1% of all lawyers licensed in a given state are permitted membership, and are characterized by the Board of Regents as those "trial lawyers who are outstanding and considered the best in a state.") He was also elected as an Advocate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) in 2000. He has an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubble (highest in legal ability and ethical standards), and is included in the Martindale-Hubble Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He has been recognized by The Washingtonian Magazine in its listing of the "Top Lawyers in Washington."
He has served as court-approved mediator and arbitrator through the local court systems, as well as private mediator. He has also presented many seminars to corporations and insurance companies, and grand rounds presentations to hospitals on a variety of topics, including defending Medical Malpractice Claims.
Mr. Gleason has represented various health care providers, organizations, hospitals, HMO’s, nursing homes, physicians and nurses. He has served as counsel for various hospitals in the District of Columbia and Maryland. In addition he has represented numerous individual clients who have sustained serious personal injuries in connection with their claims for compensation.
